Endodontic treatment includes procedures that are designed to maintain the health of all parts of the dental pulp.
When the dental pulp is diseased or injured, treatment is aimed at preserving normal periradicular tissues. When periapical tissues is diseased and inflammated, treatment is aimed at restoring the periradicular tissues to health. This is usually carried out by root canal treatment, occasionally in combination with surgical endodontics.
The aim of endodontic treatment is to preserve functional teeth without prejudice to the patient's health.
